Erbium Laser - Skin Resurfacing

The fractionated Erbium laser is one of the most popular, go-to devices in the Transformations Aesthetic Solutions practice. It offers global improvement in skin texture and tone, to provide wrinkle reduction on the face, neck, chest and hands. By removing surface skin damage, it treats photoaging, fine lines, poor texture, and acne scarring. The fractionated erbium laser provides excellent results with less downtime and less discomfort than conventional fully ablative laser resurfacing, without compromising the outcome. It also offers better results than non-ablative laser treatments.

Eliminating Damaged Skin

To Provide Skin Tightening

Because this laser produces less bulk heat than other resurfacing lasers, it allows your treatment specialist to gently and comfortably eliminate damaged skin layer by layer. It also causes less post-operative redness and swelling, which provides a more rapid healing process and will also provide skin tightening. Because the Erbium laser is gentle on the skin, it can be used successfully and safely on people with both light and darker skin tones.

Erbium Laser Treatment

Anti-Aging Skin Rejuvenation

for Sun Damage and Scars

Fractional Erbium laser resurfacing is an anti-aging treatment that refreshes and provides skin rejuvenation. Fractional laser resurfacing produces significant improvement of acne scars, reverses sun damage, successfully removes superficial wrinkles, increases skin thickness and improves skin tone and texture. This fractionated ablative laser breaks up its laser beam into a grid of tiny beams that create microscopic injuries to the top layer of skin. Because only a “fraction” of the skin is treated at one time, healing is more rapid and downtime is less. The micro injuries stimulate new collagen and elastin production for skin remodeling, ultimately smoothing and evening texture and tone. Because this laser creates micro channels in the skin, the laser can be used to deliver topical products like growth factor serum or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) more deeply into the skin for enhanced skin rejuvenation.

Wrinkle Reduction and

Younger-Looking Skin

The Erbium laser works best on patients with superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles who have sun damage, brown spots and/or acne scars. In most cases, patients are fully recovered and back to normal activities within three to five days, depending on the area treated and the energy used. Studies show consistent improvement of wrinkle reduction, photodamage and scars for up to six months after treatment. Initially, there will be some swelling, but within less than a week you will see younger looking skin.

FAQS Erbium Laser

  • WHAT AFTERCARE WILL I NEED?

It is important to follow instructions. Dr. Quirke or his staff member will thoroughly explain what you will need to do following your procedure. You will be given some skin care products and instructions on how to use them. This will minimize your risk for infection and ensure the shortest healing time. The top layer of your skin will re-grow and can be covered with make-up in about one week.

Your new skin will be very sensitive to ultraviolet light and you must avoid sun exposure until fully healed. You need to cover your skin, wear a hat and use a good sunscreen if you have to spend time outdoors.

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECOVER?

Your healing time will depend upon your actual treatment depth, and you may experience erythema (redness), which may last several weeks. Healing time does vary among individuals.

  • WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?

It will take a few days for your body to regenerate a new surface layer of your skin. Redness is common and swelling may be present in the areas treated, however, this should subside in a few hours. We will instruct you how to effectively care for your healing skin. Your skin will have a residual pink or red color that will dissolve over time.

  • IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?

You will be given either a topical or local anesthetic during the procedure for lesser depths. Sedation can also be provided and is offered to all patients, if they desire. Most patients describe the post-procedure feeling as a bad sunburn; this feeling will subside in a few days. Cold compresses will also help subdue the discomfort.

  • HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Recovery time is usually one to two weeks. Because your skin will heal over a period of several weeks, you may not see the final results until then. As your skin heals, and as new collagen regenerates and fills in the lines and wrinkles, your results will continue to improve. Results will continue to improve for months.
