  • IS IT RISKY?

All surgical procedures carry some form of risk. These risks can be greatly minimized if an experienced nose surgeon is chosen to perform the surgery. While rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed procedures in the U.S., surgeon skill is critical so that a beautiful, satisfactory outcome can result.

  • BROKEN NOSE?

Around half of all rhinoplasty cases will include some form of nose breaking in order to allow the surgeon to reshape the cartilage and bone. This is primarily intended for patients who have nasal asymmetry. The broken bone or cartilage will be reshaped and reattached, and then supported by splints during recovery.

  • SURGICAL OR NONSURGICAL?

This depends on the patient’s nose structure and what aesthetic result is that they are trying to achieve. For significant reshaping, the surgical approach will be performed as this allows the surgeon to manipulate the cartridges and bones. If the patient is looking for a subtle improvement, adding volume to the area may suffice.

Facelift and Nose Surgery

Transformations specializes in Facial Plastic Surgery and the many procedures that entails, but what are the different types of Facial Plastic Surgery?

Rhinoplasty
Nose Surgery, or Rinoplasty, is one of the most common cosmetic surgery operations, primarily because the nose is the most prominent feature of the face and has a major impact on a person’s overall appearance. Sometimes an event like an accidental nasal fracture can lead a person to consider Rhinoplasty, but for others, they have been thinking about reshaping their nose for quite a while. Sometimes patients are concerned about the fact that their nose has slowly grown during the course of their lives and believe that a reshaped nose would give them a more youthful appearance. Rhinoplasty can both improve the aesthetic appearance of your nose, as well as your breathing.

Septoplasty - Deviated Septum

Transformations Aesthetic Solutions

Septoplasty is surgery designed to correct a deviated septum, which is one of the most common reasons patients have difficulty breathing through their nose. When you have a deviated septum, which is the internal cartilage that separates the two nasal airways, you could have problems sleeping, a chronically stuffy nose or a dry mouth. A healthy septum should run down the center of the nose with a relatively straight path, allowing air to flow equally on either side. When the septum is deviated, airflow is restricted through one or both nostrils.

In some cases, the nose is obviously crooked when this issue occurs, but other times, it’s only visible inside the nose. Septoplasty can improve both the function and the appearance of the nose.

Deviated Septum Surgery

Facelift and Mini-Facelift

- Facial Plastic Surgery

Though there are many options to reduce the signs of aging, when it comes to Plastic Surgery, the facelift continues to be the most effective choice for facial rejuvenation. There are several different options to consider with this type of procedure, but during your initial facelift consultation at Transformations, we will discuss which procedure best fits your needs.

A traditional facelift is typically the best option for those in their 50s or older, who have considerable folds of excess skin in their neck, and it requires a full incision surgery. Mini-facelift surgery is usually the best option for younger patients who are looking to improve wrinkles in the cheeks, or less involved improvements.

  • NON-INVASIVE TECHNIQUES?

Cosmetic surgery is constantly evolving and always finding ways to minimize the invasiveness of procedures. There are countless options that are considered less invasive than a facelift, including wrinkle relaxers such as BOTOX®, injectable fillers, microdermabrasion and chemical/laser peels. These alternatives aim to correct signs of aging such as wrinkles, as well flatten and soften folds and contours. The effects, while effective, are often short-term lasting about 6 months to a year. Although these procedures can be safely repeated, for some, a facelift may be a better, more permanent option.

  • HOW NATURAL?

Immediately following a facelift procedure, the patient will feel tightness and a pulling sensation. This is normal as the facial tissues, skin and muscle adjust to their new positions. It is important to choose a reputable plastic surgeon that has years of experience in facial cosmetic surgery. A doctor with experience in facial surgery will create natural, smooth results that will last for years to come.

  • VISIBLE SCARS?

A tradional facelift requires a long cut from the temple to the lower hairline, but the scars will be well concealed within the hairline and natural creases on the face. With the lesser invasive techniques, the scars heal pretty well and will almost be completely invisible to the naked eye.

  • BEST AGE?

Anyone can consider a facelift as soon as evidence of aging starts taking a toll on the skin. Generally, patients who are age 50 to 70 consider a facelift. Personal habits and environmental conditions can impact the skin and there are patients who are only 40 that are also good candidates for a facelift.

Neck Enhancement and Neck Lift

The effects of sun, gravity and aging can cause the neck to have vertical bands, wrinkles, sagging skin and even localized fat. A neck enhancement procedure can return to you your well-defined, youthful neck. There are several different options for this surgery, including a Neck Lift, Neck Liposuction and even Chin Augmentation. The lift will restore the angle between the neck and the chin, to smooth out those vertical bands. A neck liposuction is usually best suited for younger patients who still have good skin elasticity, but have fatty tissue that has caused a double chin. And a chin implant can lengthen the distance between the neck and chin, which can improve the neck’s appearance.

  • ALTERNATIVE TO LIFT?

Surgery is the only way to remove loose skin, especially if it is loose enough to hang and droop. Therefore, a neck lift is the only solution when it comes to redefining an individual’s neck to create a strong contour. While there are some very good skin tightening laser treatments on the market today, surgery is still the best option.

  • HIDDEN SCARS?

There is minimal scarring with this procedure. Since the incision is placed under the chin and near the ears, the scarring is usually hidden. A skilled facial surgeon will take great effort to minimize scarring as much as possible.

  • IDEAL AGE?

This depends on the situation and the amount of loose and sagging skin that is present. Some weight loss patients are young and may require a neck lift at a young age (for example, those between 20-30). For older patients who are combating loose skin due to aging, the most common age is between 50-70.

  • COMBINATION SURGERY?

During the initial consultation, it may be suggested that in addition to a neck lift, the patient may also benefit from another procedure, such as a facelift or a chin implant. It is common for these additional procedures to be combined to achieve the patient’s desired contours and aesthetic goals.

  • EVIDENT SCARS?

Eyelid surgery, whether upper or lower, does not generally cause visible scarring. This is because the surgeon takes great care to ensure that the incisions are made within the natural lines and folds of the eyes. Once the surgical healing has passed, the incisions will not be noticeable, even to the naked eye.

  • WRINKLES AND CROW'S FEET?

Crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles are better treated with procedures such as a facelift, browlift or a cheek lift, as the results of the eyelid surgery are confined to the eyelids only. Eyelid surgery can also be combined with a nonsurgical procedure such as BOTOX, which combats wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. An injectable filler can also be effective because it adds volume to hollow areas for a softer, smoother appearance.

  • POST-SURGERY COMPLICATIONS?

Complications and irritations after surgery are rare. Patients must strictly adhere to care instructions prescribed by the surgeon to minimize any risks of infection as the eyes can be sensitive after surgery. Patients must always take precautions to protect the eyes from the sun and wind during the first few weeks of recovery.

  • BETTER EYESIGHT?

Blepharoplasty surgery not only corrects a cosmetic issue, but a functional one as well. Many patients with excess hanging skin on their upper eyelid are able to regain normal vision after surgery. For many, simply applying makeup without maneuvering around the excess skin is refreshing in and of itself.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty is an Eyelid Surgery procedure that provides a significant improvement in a patient’s appearance, but has a much quicker recovery and even a lower cost than most other facial operations. One of the first areas of the face that will show signs of aging are the eyelids, because as we age, our skin tone lessens, and the upper eyelids begin to droop towards the eyelash line. This causes our eyes to lose their round shape and youthful appearance and become more narrowed. Blepharoplasty is an ideal surgery for those who are worried that their eyes are beginning to look old and tired, or even angry.

Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Most people are born with ears that hold tightly to their heads. But if your ears protrude from the side of your head, it can be attributed to a fold of cartilage inside the rim of your ear that is not fully developed, or you may have excess cartilage. There is also a possibility that both of those conditions can exist, causing your ears to stick out. Otoplasty is both a safe and effective way to correct that issue. This surgery can be a life-changing one for adults and children, who may be even more anxious about their appearance. If protruding ears are a problem for you, and you’re tired of changing your hairstyle to conceal them, Otoplasty is a good option.

  • LASTING RESULTS?

The ears typically mature faster than any other part of the body, therefore, at an appropriate age and time when surgical adjustments are made, the results are generally long lasting. Even as the body changes due to age and gravity, the changes to the ear will be minimal and a secondary otoplasty is usually not needed.

  • WHEN TO HAVE OTOPLASTY?

On average, 7-8 year olds are ideal candidates for otoplasty, as the ear will be already developed and the cartilage and tissues will still be soft, making it easy to reshape. This age is also recommended as it is a time before early in schooling, which helps to avoid teasing.

  • ONE OR BOTH EARS?

Usually, the condition is symmetrical to both ears. The final shape that the surgery will aim for will depend on the initial structure of the ear and how cartilages are placed. If the procedure is only for one ear, the shape will be patterned after the normally formed ear.

  • FATTY CHIN?

Chin augmentation is designed to emphasize the jaw line and create a balanced overall facial appearance. If there are excess fat deposits under the chin, which create an impression of a double chin, liposuction may be performed. Before any cosmetic surgery, it is advised that the patient is close or already at their goal weight so it doesn’t compromise the positive results of surgery. Sometimes, liposuction is sufficient as it already defines the chin without ever needing an implant.

  • TEMPORARY NUMBNESS?

Yes. With the implant and surrounding tissues adjusting to its new position, there will be a loss of sensation around the chin area and the skin around it will feel tighter than usual. This is an expected reaction post-surgery and shouldn’t be a cause for anxiety. Eventually, sensitivity will return to normal, but it may take several months before the patient can regain all sensation.

  • OBVIOUS SCARS?

The incisions made during a chin augmentation procedure are placed inconspicuously within the inside of the lip or under the chin, therefore, there is limited to no scarring that occurs with this procedure.

Cheek and Chin Augmentation

Many patients who are beginning to see their facial skin sag, due to gravity and aging, are good candidates for Cheek Augmentation. As we age, our formerly fuller cheeks can appear hollow and sunken. This procedure can plump up the cheeks and restore their youthful-looking appearance. A Chin Augmentation is effective for patients who would like to have a stronger jawline and chin, or for those who are beginning to notice neck laxity or are developing a double chin. If you’d like to improve upon your facial proportions, and are looking for a procedure with a short recovery time, a Cheek and/or Chin Augmentation could be effective options.

Brow Lift

Also known as a forehead lift, a Brow Lift can improve the overall appearance of your eyelids and forehead, and help you appear more youthful. Some of the other issues a Brow Lift can address are: Minimizing the creases on the bridge of the nose and the forehead; repositioning a dropping brow; reducing frown lines between the eyebrows; and raising the eyebrows to give the eyes a more “awake” appearance. If you’re concerned about deep furrows on your forehead, droopy eyebrows or frown lines over your eyes, a Brow Lift may help you achieve a more refreshed, invigorated appearance.

Dr. Quirke will initially evaluate the problem areas on the face and recommend the best approach. A brow lift enhancement is confined within the upper area of the face, while a facelift also improves the appearance of the lower area of the face, including the chin and the cheeks. Depending on the severity of the wrinkles and the sagging, a full facelift may be a better approach.
