There are numerous ways to treat acne, and typically a combination of treatments is needed. For the most effective treatment, your medical history and an examination will be conducted to determine the course of action that is required. Sometimes systemic issues contribute to acne, but occupational factors may also play a role in producing acne. One should not pop, squeeze or pick at acne. This is the most common habit found in acne patients and might worsen common acne, causing cystic lesions, hyper-pigmentation or permanent scarring of the skin.
The teenage years are not an easy time for many young people. During that time, teenagers go through drastic changes, both physically and emotionally. The last thing they need at that time of life is to suffer from acne. For teenagers, acne is nothing short of a nightmare.
At Transformations Aesthetic Solutions, we focus on medical remedies to treat teenage acne, effectively and at home. It's not uncommon to face severe acne problems during puberty. In fact, acne can be considered as a prominent sign that you are now officially an adult! But teenage acne can also have a devastating effect on a teen’s self confidence. A healthy diet, along with good skin care and medical dermatology, can help you deal with teenage acne more effectively.
Teenage acne is primarily caused by hormonal activities inside the body. During puberty, our body starts to produce androgens (male sex hormones) and it cause the sebaceous glands (the oil glands) to enlarge.
The enlarged and over-activated sebaceous glands produce more oil, which ends up blocking the hair follicles and pores. Also, our skin sheds a larger amount of dead skin cells during puberty, some of which remain there on the top surface of the skin. The oil, along with the dead skin cells, clogs the hair follicles and makes it an ideal breeding ground for acne-causing bacteria.
Almost all teenagers suffer from acne, though the few luckier ones may get away with only blackheads, whiteheads or small red zits on the cheeks or chin. The rest have to deal with big red pimples, pus- filled acne and even cystic acne.
Many people have acne. It is the most common skin problem in the United States. About 40 to 50 million Americans have acne at any one time. Most people who have acne are teenagers or young adults, but acne can occur at any age.
Acne appears when a pore in our skin clogs. Sometimes bacteria that live on our skin gets inside the clogged pore, where the bacteria have a perfect environment for multiplying very quickly. With loads of bacteria inside, the pore becomes inflamed (red and swollen). If the inflammation goes deep into the skin, an acne cyst or nodule appears.
The best thing to do is keep area clean and use products that are oil free. Applying ice and over-the- counter hydrocortisone 1% cream can also be temporarily helpful, until you can get dermatologic treatment.
Adult acne also known as late on-set acne is common. It happens for various reasons the most common are fluctuating hormone levels, stress, family history and the use of hair and skin care products that are not oil free.
Prescription drugs are used to treat acne that is not responding well to topical agents.
The most popular prescriptions for treating Acne are antibiotics and Isotretinoin. These help fight bacteria and infection from the inside out, but also come with more side effects, which should be discussed with your provider.
